Temple Complex of Shatrunjaya Tirth
This temple complex is situated on hills in Palitana, in Gujarat State. It is one of the five most important pilgrimage places of Jains. This painting shows assemblage of temples on the Mount of Shatrunjaya. There are 65 temples and 300 small shrines on this mountain. The main temple at the Summit has Rishabhanatha, the first Tirthankar in meditation (sitting) posture. Tirtha-patas like this were painted not only for guidance but also to provide glimpses of this pilgrimage place to devotees.
